BRONX, N.Y. — The York College women's tennis team opened their 2018 campaign with a 9-0 conference loss to Lehman on Thursday afternoon.

Geraldine Guese (Astoria, N.Y./William Cullen Bryant HS) led the Cardinals (0-1, 0-1) atop the lineup and played a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles. The junior nearly forced a third set pushing her opponent Lizaveta Markouskaya to a second-set tiebreaker but coming up short, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Isabelle Martinez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Health Sciences) and Monique James (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn College Academy) took a game off their opponents at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

York continues their season hosting John Jay College on Saturday at noon.
