BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior Rohan Burrell scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season but the York College men's soccer team opened CUNYAC play taking a 2-1 loss from Brooklyn College on Wednesday evening at Aviator Field.
Burrell's goal in the 70th minute extended his goal-scoring streak to four games and halved a 2-0 deficit, but York (1-6, 0-1 CUNYAC) couldn't find the equalizer.
Brooklyn (1-7, 1-0 CUNYAC) was unable to get a shot on goal over the opening 45 and the Cardinals outshot the visitors 6-5 in the opening half. But it was BC who led 1-0 at the break after Stewart Bailon was dragged down in the box with under five minutes to go before halftime, and Bokkar Ka converting the ensuing penalty kick.
The Bulldogs added an insurance goal 13 minutes into the second half which would prove to be the difference. Both defenses limited the opportunities down the stretch, but Burrell broke through with a close-range shot, bringing York to within one, 2-1, with just over 30 minutes left to play.
With scoring opportunities scarce,
Ibrahim Kone's header off a corner kick would be the only shot for either squad the remainder of the game.
Johan Bermeo would finish with two saves in defeat for York. Balint Barabas made four saves for the win for Brooklyn. Both squads finished level 9-9 in shots.
York continues their league campaign against Hunter College on Saturday, September 22 kicking off at 3 p.m. from Randall's Island Field 75.
