BOX SCORE JAMAICA, N.Y- After a near two-week layoff, the York men's tennis team took the court against the John Jay Bloodhounds on Friday. The Bloodhounds ultimately took a 7-2 win over the Cardinals this afternoon.
With five of their first six matches postponed due to inclement weather, the Cardinals had some rust that for the most part showed early. The day began with three doubles matches, two of which John Jay handled easily. The third however, saw
Vimal Ramnarain and
Hasnain Khatri give Sean Kim and Oleh Mir a run for their money. The hard fought, back and forth set resulted in a tiebreaker after the score was knotted at eight a piece. John Jay would ultimately take the win, after a few botched serves in a row by the Cardinals.
Heading into the singles matches, the Cardinals were able to secure two victories thanks to
Ralph Ramos and
Adrian Tam. Ramos secured his victory with a dominant showing against Jowel Ahmed at #5 singles. Ramos took the first set 6-0 and the second set by a score of 6-1 and improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Adrian Tam and Kevin LaTorre of the Blooodhounds were involved in one of the more competitive matches of the day at #3 singles. After Tam took a 5-4 lead in this back and forth matchup, LaTorre tied things up at 5-5. The two would trade the next two points before heading into a tiebreaker. Tam would then take control, as LaTorre would only manage two points in the tiebreaker. Tam took the win and made much quicker work of his opponent in the second set, as he won by a score of 6-2.
The Cardinals (0-2, 0-2 CUNYAC) will look to keep improving as they take the court Saturday afternoon at home. The team will face Lehman College at 12:00 p.m. in a CUNYAC showdown.
