BELLEROSE, N.Y.—The York College softball team faced a couple of tough pitching match-ups on Saturday and lost a doubleheader to Cairn University, 9-0 and 11-2.
 
Cairn's Krista Earl tossed a five-inning shutout, while striking out nine batters and allowing just three hits to get the win in game one. In game two, Shay Walker allowed six hits and two earned runs, while striking out three over five innings for the win in game two.
 
Despite the loss, York's Alyssa King had a nice day, going 2-for-2 in game one and 1-for-1 with two walks in the second game.  Nicole Ovelheira picked up a hit in each game for the Cardinals.
 
Cairn did most of their scoring early, getting five runs in the first inning of game one and three runs in the second inning. Katelyn Reiss provided most of the offense for Cairn, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Game two was highlighted by a six-run second inning, which was highlighted by a two-run homer from Earl. 
 
With the two losses, York drops to 1-20 on the season, while Cairn improves to .500 with a record of 16-16.
 
The Cardinals have a quick turnaround as they will visit the College of Staten Island on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
