NEW HAVEN, C.T.—After playing a number of close matches throughout the year but coming up short, the York College men's tennis team finally broke through and defeated Albertus Magnus College, 6-3, on the road Sunday afternoon for its first win of the season. York then played a second abbreviated match and won, 7-2.
The Cardinals started the day off taking two of three doubles matches.
Vimal Ramnarain and
Hasnain Khatri won an 8-3 decision at the first flight, while
Ralph Ramos and
Rahim Houston earned an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles.
In singles play, York took four of six singles matches.
Adrian Tam won in a third set tiebreaker at first singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 and Khatri won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles.
Ralph Ramos earned his fifth win of the year at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 and
Felix Liew also won 6-0, 6-0 at #5 singles.
In the second match, York swept doubles play and then won 4 of six singles matches. Ramnaira, Khatri and Houston each won 8-0 at #3, #4 and #5 singles respectively and
Felix Liew was an 8-2 victor at sixth singles.
With the win, York is now 2-6. They will visit St. Joseph's College- Long Island on Friday at 5 p.m.
