Cardinals Fall to Widener in Final Home Match of the Season

JAMAICA, N.Y.-- The York College men's volleyball team lost its final home match of the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon, losing to Widener University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-18).
 
York had its chances in this one, as they kept it close early on in each set, but every time York tried to move ahead, Widener was able to respond and grab the momentum back.
 
In the opening set, York trailed 9-8, but Widener scored seven straight points on the strength of three aces from Bill Barclay to take a commanding 16-8 lead.
 
In the second set, York drew even at 11-11 following a Frederis Tapis kill, but once again Widener followed with a big run, scoring 12 of the next 14 points to pull away.
 
In the final set, York rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to take an 11-10 advantage. However, Widener fought off the momentum and pulled away once again to clinch the match.
 
In the loss, York was led by Tapia who had seven kills anda  .235 hitting percentage. Akeem George finished with five kills and Neko Lyttle also had five kills with two blocks.
 
Widern was led by A.J. Sungenis, who finished with match-high 18 kills and a .455 hitting percentage.
 
Widener improves to 3-13 with the win, while York is now 4-20. The Cardinals close out the season on Tuesday on the road against the College of Staten Island at 7 p.m.
