JAMAICA, N.Y- The York College men's volleyball team celebrated senior night on Tuesday, but their plans for victory were thwarted by John Jay College.  John Jay defeated the Cardinals, 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-14).
 
The Cardinals began the day by digging themselves into an 11-3 deficit. In the first set, the Cardinals never got close. York totaled only four kills and had double as many errors with eight. The Bloodhounds finished the first set with 11 kills and hit .185.
 
The second set was where the Cardinals really put their best foot forward. The Cardinals hit .226 in the set and racked up 13 kills. With John Jay leading 11-7, the Cardinals scored the next six points to take a 13-11 lead after three kills by Akil Vaughn. The rest of the set saw each team on mini runs, grabbing the lead back and forth from each other. A service error from John Jay put York one point away from taking the set, as the gymnasium full of fans cheered the Cardinals on. However, John Jay would go on to grab the next three points and take the second set.
 
The third set started off back and forth as well. After John Jay took a 9-3 lead, the Cardinals stormed back to tie the game, thanks in large part to four kills by Mambe Koureissi. This run by the Cardinals would be the last as John Jay scored 16 of the next 21 points and took the set.
 
The Cardinals were led on the night by Akil Vaughn's six kills, while Mambe Koureissi and Akeem George each racked up five kills. Juan Rodriguez led the team with seven digs. For John Jay, Juan DeJesus was the star as he earned 12 kills.
 
York (4-19) will play another home game Saturday afternoon as they take on Widener University at 2:00 p.m.
