BELLEROSE. NY- On a cold and windy afternoon at Padvan-Preller field, the York College softball team was swept by Rosemont College in a home doubleheader.
Pitcher Autumn Sharkey of Rosemont was able to shutdown the offense of York in game one, allowing only two hits and one walk and striking out eight batters. First baseman for Rosemont, Lena Buccigrossi went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Rosemont would take game one from York with a final score of 21-0.
In the second game of this doubleheader, an eventful first inning was played out and it was a close game until the second, which is when Rosemont was able to take advantage of the errors made by the Cardinals. From there, Rosemont took a commanding lead in the game, scoring 12 runs on six hits. Buccigrossi was the top performer for her team again, going 4-for-5 with 6 RBIs.
Although York was down by a significant margin, they did show some signs of life, scoring six runs and collecting eight hits as a team. Junior
Nicole Ovelheira went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs and one double.
Dorianny Rojas helped to set the table for Ovelheira, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. The final score for the second game was 22-6.
York's next game will be on Sunday, when they host Yeshiva University at noon at Padavan-Preller Field.
