Campbell Leads Men’s Volleyball to Road Win over Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y.—York's Kevin Campbell had a career day to lead the Cardinals' men's volleyball team to a come-from-behind victory over Yeshiva University on Sunday. York won 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-13, 25-13).

Campbell finished with a career-high 17 kills and 11 digs, while adding two aces. Also, York freshman, Akil Vaughn finished with 14 kills, five aces and nine digs and senior Akeem George slammed 11 kills.

Setter Adil Manji also established a new career-high of 43 assists and five aces, while libero Juan Rodriguez had a career-best 14 digs. In addition, Rodriguez would serve double duty for York on the day, as he would later make his way to compete in the CUNYAC Track Championships immediately after the match, which was being held just a few minutes away from Yeshiva's campus.

York found itself in an early hole, as they squandered away a set point in the first set and allowed Yeshiva to steal the set.  With York leading 25-24, the Maccabees got three straight points to take the lead. In the second set, York evened things up, thanks to an 11-0 run midway through that put the set way out of reach.  In the third set, York once again got a big run, scoring six unanswered to push its lead from four points to ten. York won the set convincingly, 25-14.  The final set was all York as well, as they jumped out to an 8-2 advantage and never looked back.

It was a much-needed win for the Cardinals, who improve to 2-10 with the victory. Yeshiva drops to 1-5 with the loss. York will be idle until March 6 when they visit Brooklyn College at 7 p.m.
