PURCHASE, N.Y.—The Cardinals and Purchase College were in a close game for most of the first half, but Purchase pulled away late in the second quarter and went on to win 83-65 on Thursday.
York trailed by just two points early in the second quarter but a 12-2 run pushed the Panthers lead up to 12 points. They then continued to expand on the lead from there and cruised to victory in the second half.
The Panthers won the game due in large part to their rebounding. They out-rebounded York, 61-38, and scored 24 second-chance points. Nyasia Harris was a force on the glass for Purchase, grabbing 20 rebounds, while also blocking three shots. Amber Jones scored a game-high 32 points to lead Purchase on offense.
York got a team-high 14 points from
Allison Ahmed, who did that despite playing just 21 minutes.
Karen Bellamy and
Victoria Salas each had 12 points and four assists.
The loss drops York's record to 5-15, while Purchase is now 7-11. York will host Hunter College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
