JAMAICA, N.Y. — The York College (N.Y.) men's basketball team (3-6, 0-3 CUNYAC) remained winless in CUNYAC play with a 76-62 loss at home to Lehman College on Friday night. Seniors
Taishaun Forehand-Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson) and
Jonathan Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse) paced the Cardinals with 14 points apiece in defeat.
The Lightning maintained control of the contest from the outset as an Xavier Boyd long-ball pushed their lead to 22-10 at 12:31 in the first half. Seven unanswered points for Lehman, with five of them from Miguel Haboosh, extended the advantage to 40-16 with seven minutes to play in the half. Lehman went on to shoot a red-hot 53.8% from three in the first as they carried a 49-26 lead to the lockers.
Jenkins poured in eight of 10 points in a 10-2 York run at the beginning of the second half, cutting the lead to 51-36. The Cardinals continued to claw back and even came back within single-digits on an
Akil Vaughn (Georgetown, Guyana/St. Roses) tip-in, making it 61-52 with 6:31 to play.
However, Lehman rattled off an 8-1 run immediately to put the game away and pick up their second league win of the season. The Lightning's defense was top form, holding the Cardinals to 30.7% from the field and a dismal 16% mark from beyond the arc.
Jenkins added three assists and three steals to his 14 points while Jones nearly missed a double-double corralling nine rebounds. Vaughn finished with six points, seven rebounds, and two blocks and
Devante McGhee (Brooklyn, N.Y./Seward) put up eight points off the bench.
Next up for the Cardinals is a home game against Clarks Summit University as part of the York Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 14) at 7:30 p.m.
