Women’s Swimming Wins Season Opener at Old Westbury; Men Fall to Panthers

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The York College women's swimming team earned a 47-26 victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury while the men suffered a 125-41 defeat to the Panthers on Wednesday evening in their season opener.

The York women won four of the eight contested events. Mariela Rosario notched a one-second victory in the 100-yard butterfly touching the wall in 1:35.65. The Cardinals took three triumphs unopposed with Argenis Morales winning the 100-yard freestyle (1:50.60), Dorianny Rojas (2:20.96) and Morales (2:23.93) going one-two in the 100-yard backstroke, and the quartet of Kaithlyn Taylor, Candysbeth Santana, Rojas and Mariela Rosario taking the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:57.60.

Jahleel Jones highlighted the men's meet with the lone individual win for the Cardinals in the 100-yard breaststroke securing a 10-second victory in 1:14.87. Arafath Hussain and Jeremy Sapeg collected second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.19) and 500-yard freestyle (8:45.61), respectively.

The York women return to the pool on Friday, December 7 for their home opener against Kean University starting at 6 p.m. The men jump back into the pool on January 15, 2019 heading to the Bronx for a CUNYAC meet against Lehman College.
