JAMAICA, N.Y. — In their first game of the 2018-19 season, the York College (N.Y.) men's basketball team (1-0) hosted Maine Maritime Academy at the York College Gym and came away with a 79-72 victory. Five players reached double-figures as third-year head coach
Nolan Adams picked up his first season-opening victory at the helm of the Cardinals.
The visitors raced out to an early 10-2 lead after a Demerrill Levy three, but York clawed back and
Brandon Herriot (Queens, N.Y./Martin Van Buren) completed an and-one to put the Cardinals on top 13-12 at the 10:21 mark in the first half. The two sides were back-and-forth until
Stephan Cadet (Jamaica, N.Y./Hampton) scored six-straight points for York giving them a six-point advantage. They finished the half strong leading 41-36.
A
Maliqe John (Brooklyn, N.Y./East Stroudsburg North) jumper gave the Cardinals their largest lead of the game (49-39) three minutes into the second half. Levy tied the score at 60 with just under 10 minutes to play, but back-to-back triples from Devine Chisolm (Brooklyn, N.Y./John Dewey) and
