Burrell’s Two Goals Not Enough as Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short Versus Baruch

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Senior Rohan Burrell scored the game's first and last goal as the York College men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 CUNYAC decision to Baruch College on home on Wednesday evening at Aviator Field.

Ebrahim Ramos found Burrell in the 19th minute with a long through ball that set up a 1-on-1 with the goalie and the senior juked the keeper near the penalty spot and slotted the ball into an empty net for the game's first tally.

But that would be York's (1-9-1, 0-4-1 CUNYAC) lone shot until Burrell struck again in the second half. Baruch (6-3-1, 3-0 CUNYAC) had several opportunities throughout the opening 45 but the Cardinals clung to the 1-0 lead until the 38th minute when Cormac Foley shot one from inside the box and the Bearcats quickly added another on Shaiem Morad's goal three minutes later that sent the teams into the lockers with Bearcats up 2-1.

Adonis Martinez buried a direct free kick less than 10 minutes into the second stanza which would prove to be the game winner. The Bearcats defense limited the Cardinal opportunities but with seven minutes left to play, Burrell found space at the top of the box and launched a hard shot from 25 yards out that brought the Cardinals back within one, 3-2.

York had an opportunity to equalize late with a free kick from just outside the box, but Ramos' attempt found its way through the Bearcat wall, but just wide of goal.

Baruch finished with a 25-4 shooting advantage for the contest and 8-1 in corner kicks. Johan Bermeo made eight saves in a losing effort.

York squares off with City College of New York Randall's Island Field 10 on Saturday, October 12, starting at noon.
