JAMAICA, N.Y.—Baruch College shot a blistering 60 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range en route to defeating the York College men's basketball team, 89-65, on Friday night.
York had no answer for Baruch, who made 33-off-55 shots from the field and 11-of-20 three-pointers. William Sixsmith drained six of those three pointers and finished with 18 points. Preseason Player of the Year Chimaechi Ekekeugbor finished with a game-high 25 points, making 10-of-14 shots.
The Cardinals were led by
Edwin Sainvil, who netted 20 points with six boards.
Taishaun Forehand-Jenkins was a perfect 5-of-5 from long range and scored 15 points.
Jean Joseph had ten points, five boards and three steals.
York was in the game early and led 17-16 midway through the first half. However, a 17-0 Baruch run over a four-minute span quickly turned York's fortunes. Sixsmith had a couple threes during the stretch to help pad his team's lead.
From there, Baruch was in control the rest of the way. York briefly closed to within five points early in the second half, but another big Baruch run followed to put the game well out of reach.
With the loss, York is now 5-11, 3-6 CUNYAC. Baruch is 9-8, 6-3 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will host Medgar Evers College on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
