JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team was outscored 33-4 in the second quarter and could not recover, despite playing well for the rest of the game, and fell to CCNY, 89-68, on Saturday afternoon.
York's
Karen Bellamy nearly had a triple-double in the loss, scoring 22 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Juliet Matthews and
Giovana Rosado each chipped in 11 points and
Victoria Salas scored nine.
CCNY was led by Madison LaSalle with 20 points. In all, CCNY had six players reach double figures in points.
The Cardinals played a solid first quarter and trailed by just five after a buzzer beater by CCNY's Debra Chan made it 21-16.
But things went south in the second quarter. York shot just 1-of-20 from the field, while CCNY caught fire, making 12-of-18 shots from the field. The 33-4 run would put York in a 54-20 hole at halftime.
The Cardinals picked it up in the third quarter, outscoring the Beavers 30-17 and played even in the fourth, but the second-quarter deficit was too much to overcome.
With the loss, York is now 3-11, 1-6 CUNYAC. CCNY is 10-5, 5-3 CUNYAC. The Cardinals visit John Jay College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
