JERSEY CITY, N.J.—The York College men's soccer team faced a tough test on the road against New Jersey City University Sunday. Despite a strong effort, the Cardinals fell by a score of 2-0.
The Gothic Knights got a goal in each half. Ron Jones chipped a shot in goal in the 17th minute off an assist from Diego Lopez. In the 55th minute, Walter Salmeron blasted a shot into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0.
York had lots of chances in this one, but was never able to convert. York fired 16 shots on the day, with five going on net. NJCU also kept York keeper
Nigel Sampson busy, firing 23 shots, seven of which were on net. Sampson finished with five saves on the day.
NJCU improves to 4-2-1 on the season, while York drops to 1-5. York will host the College of Staten Island on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Aviator Sports and Events Center.
