BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The York College women's soccer team fought back hard in the second half but their effort came up just short, as they lost to Medgar Evers College, 3-2.
Medgar Evers wasted no time getting on the board after a goal by Brenda Cruz on a free kick in just the second minute of play. York College would strike back in the 22nd minute after a nice pass from
Alaysia Madison led to a chip shot over the goalie by
Rosalis Espinal. The assist marked the first career assist for Madison, who was playing in her first game for the Cardinals, while Espinal also connected for her first goal on the season.
Medgar Evers College would then go on to score two unanswered goals in the 34th and 52nd minute. York College made a strong push at the end of the game and a goal by
Isis Funez in the 70th minute looked to be the spark of a rally. The goal marked the first of the season for Funez. However, time was against York College and they came up just short In the end.Â
York will look to bounce back with a win when they host Brooklyn College this Saturday, September 16th at 12:00 pm. Both York College and Brooklyn College will hold a 0-4 record when they meet.Â
