York Falters in Second Half to Mt. St. Vincent

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The College of Mt. St. Vincent scored three second-half goals to break a 1-1 tie at halftime and defeated the York College men's soccer team, 4-1, on Monday night.

The Dolphins took no time getting on the board this evening. Julius Tumukunde found the back of the net, putting the Dolphins on the board within the first eight minutes of the half.

After that first goal, the remainder of first half was played around midfield with both teams having equal control. The Cardinals goalie, Nigel Sampson, made key stops to keep the Cardinals in the game.

Ivan Brito had the lone goal of the evening for the Cardinals. With a little under eight minutes left in the first half, Brito scored off of a free kick with a pretty shot into the left corner.

The game would stay tied until the 65th minute, when the Dolphins score thrice in a three-minute span.  It started with a Cardinal foul in the goalie box, leading to a penalty kick for the Dolphins. Andrew Gomez converted the kick to make it 2-1.

Just one minute later, Joseph Llamuca made a long pass from around midfield which found teammate Guy Horcasitias, who was able to put the ball in net to make it 3-1. Finally, Gomez would add his second goal of the game off a free kick two minutes later to seal the Cardinals' fate.

York fouls proved to be costly in this one.  They committed 10 fouls, two of which led to goals.

After tonight's game, York drops to 1-3 on the season, while Mount Saint Vincent improves to 2-2. Up next for the Cardinals will be a road game on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. versus Sarah Lawrence College.  The game will be played on the campus of Purchase College.
