BELLEROSE, N.Y.—The York College softball team combined to score 13 runs in a doubleheader on Sunday, but it would not be enough, as the Cardinals fell to the College of New Rochelle by scores of 18-7 and 18-6 respectively.
In game one, both
Dorianny Rojas and
Nicole Ovelheira went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, while
Tyler Smith was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
However, the Cardinals' offense could not carry York on this day, after New Rochelle collected 12 hits and 18 runs. Walks and errors were once again a big problem for the Cardinals, as they have been all season. York issued nine free passes and made four errors.
Game two was a similar story. The Cardinals plated six runs, with
Chyla Guevara and Ovelheira leading the way with two hits apiece and an RBI.
Once again, New Rochelle took advantage of some wild pitching by York and plated 18 runs on 12 hits for the second straight game.
New Rochelle improves to 16-10 with the two victories. York (0-22) will try to salvage its season on Tuesday when they visit Yeshiva University for a doubleheader beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Fordham University. It will be the final two games of the season for the Cardinals.
