Softball Held Scoreless in Doubleheader vs. St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

BELLEROSE, N.Y.—The York College softball team was held scoreless in a doubleheader vs. St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) on Wednesday, losing by scores of 9-0 and 14-0.

In game one, York kept it close, trailing 1-0 heading into the third inning. However, with two outs and runners on second and third, a crucial York error allowed two runs to score, making it 3-0.

In the fourth inning, St. Joseph's put the game out of reach with a three-run frame, highlighted by a two-run triple by Samantha Rossi. The Bears then put up another three runs in the fourth inning to round out the scoring.

York managed just two hits—one from Chyla Guevara and Nicole Ovelheira.

Game #2 was a rough one for York, as the Bears jumped to a 4-0 lead before York even got to the plate.  They added four more in the third and six in the fourth.  The big reason for the outburst was the 12 walks issued by York pitching.

Once again, Ovelheira and Guevara collected the only two hits for the Cardinals. Ovelheira also struck out for the first time in her career in the first inning, snapping a streak of 75 straight plate appearances without a strikeout to start her career.

York falls to 0-10, while St. Joseph's is 11-7. The Cardinals are back at home tomorrow with a home doubleheader vs. Old Westbury at 3 p.m.
