Men’s Volleyball Drops Crucial Match to Lehman College

BRONX, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team saw its playoff hopes take a big hit on Thursday, as they fell to Lehman College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-23).

York's Burrel Kirk Murray and Akeem George each had a team-high six kills to lead York in defeat.  Paramvir Singh finished with nine digs and Adil Manji registered 17 assists and eight digs.

Lehman was paced by Roberto Ventura Diaz, who finished with a match-high 13 kills. Emmanuel Ortiz served up five aces.

York did not challenge Lehman in the first two sets but held a big lead in the third set, only to see it slip away.  The Cardinals jumped to a 9-3 lead after six straight points, which forced a Lehman time out.  But Lehman would slowly chip away at the lead until they finally moved ahead, 19-17, after four straight points.  The set would go down to the wire, but the Lightning got kills from Yaw Eshun and Yordy Diaz, which broke a 23-23 tie and gave Lehman the match.

With the loss, York is now 4-19, 1-5 CUNYAC, while Lehman improves to 11-9, 5-1 CUNYAC.

York returns to action on Tuesday with a road match at John Jay at 7 p.m.
