NEW YORK, N.Y.—In the penultimate game of the season, the York College men's basketball team lost on the road to CUNYAC rival John Jay College, 85-73, on Wednesday night.
York's
Jean Joseph led York in defeat, scoring 20 points and grabbing nine boards.
Edwin Sainvil chipped in 19 points and six assists, while
Larry Moore scored eight points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds.
John Jay got 20 points from Wyatt Harkins and 19 points from Essien Epps. The Bloodhounds shot an impressive 51 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three-point range. Meanwhile, York did not have a great shooting night, connecting on 35.7 percent of its shots.
York led briefly in the opening minutes, but John Jay quickly went ahead and held a comfortable lead for most of the night. The Bloodhounds took a 10-point lead into halftime and extended that lead to as much as 18 points in the second half.
York drops to 2-21, 2-13 CUNYAC, while John Jay improves to 9-14, 7-7 CUNYAC. The Cardinals close out the regular season on Monday with a home contest vs. Brooklyn College at 8 p.m. York can still grab the eighth and final CUNYAC playoff spot. However, they will need Brooklyn to lose to John Jay on Friday and then they must defeat Brooklyn on Monday.
