Men’s Basketball Season Ends With Loss on Senior Night to Brooklyn

JAMAICA, N.Y— The York College men's basketball season came to a disappointing end on senior night with a loss to Brooklyn College, 68-59. The loss eliminates York from playoff contention.

Coming into the game, York had a chance to clinch the eighth and final playoff spot in the upcoming CUNYAC playoffs with a win over Brooklyn. Instead, Brooklyn will be headed to the playoffs and York's season has come to an end.

York had the momentum early on in front of its home crowd, as they jumped out to a 16-5 lead following a three-pointer by Sasha Clarida.  However, the Bulldogs would rally late in the first half, going on an 11-0 run to take a 28-27 advantage after a three by Grant Maynard.  The Cardinals closed the half strong though, and retook the lead by four points at the half thanks to a buzzer-beater lay-up by Jean Joseph.

York maintained a tenuous lead for the early parts of the second half, but Brooklyn once again pulled ahead following a dunk by Enees Nikovic with 13:41 left that made the score 46-45.

The game would stay tight until the very end.  After York went ahead again, a big three by Chris McIlhatton made it 59-57 in favor of Brooklyn with 2:38 to go. The Cardinals then failed to score on their next three possessions and Brooklyn pulled ahead by six.  Faced with a deficit in the final minute, York was forced to foul and Brooklyn iced the game with free throws.

Leading the way for York was Larry Moore, who had a career-high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds.  Ryan St. John scored 11 points and Clarida finished with seven points and seven boards.

Brooklyn's Niv Kofino led the Bulldogs with 17 points, ten rebounds and five assists. Nikovic scored 14 points.

Prior to the game, five senior members of the Cardinals: Terrhon Vaughn, Dondre Jackson, Moore, Clarida and St. John were all honored for the contributions to the program.

Brooklyn closes the regular season with a record of 6-19, 4-12 CUNYAC. York's season ends with a record of 2-22, 2-14 CUNYAC.
