JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team surrendered a season-high 46 kills to a hard-hitting Arcadia University team and fell by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-18).
Arcadia featured several strong hitters on the night, led by Robie Moctezuma, who had a match-high 10 kills and hit .439. Three other players had six kills apiece, including Edwin Waters, Jr., who hit .417.
York managed just 11 kills on the day, led by
Burrel Kirk Murray with three. Murray also added two aces and four digs.
Despite the lopsided box score, York hung in there against Arcadia for most of the match. In the opening set, the Cardinals trailed by just three (11-8), until a 5-1 run by Arcadia put the set out of reach.
In the second set, the Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after three Arcadia errors and a
Frederis Tapia kill. Arcadia would slowly chip away at the lead and went ahead at 9-8, and never relinquished the lead.
Arcadia went ahead 5-0 in the final set, but York rallied to cut the deficit to 9-8 thanks to four straight Arcadia errors. The Knights would rebound with four straight points and would not look back from there.
With the loss, York drops to 3-10, while Arcadia improves to 9-10. The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday when they visit Bard College at 12 p.m.
