WESTCHESTER, N.Y.—After a tightly-contested three quarters of action, the York College women's basketball team faded in the fourth quarter and lost to John Jay College, 57-43, in the opening round of the 2017 CUNY Athletic Conference tournament.
The loss ends the season for York, while John Jay advances to the quarterfinal round where they will take on the College of Staten Island on Saturday.
The two teams battled for three quarters with the score staying close for the first 30 minutes. The game looked like it would go down to the wire initially, as it was mostly a one or two-possession game until the final quarter. The Cardinals held a small lead late in the third quarter, until John Jay went up by three headed into the fourth.
However, things went south for York in the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Bloodhounds went on a 15-0 run to turn a two-point lead to a 17-point advantage.
Back-to-back three's from John Jay's Cassandra Taylor and Dana Nicholson pushed the lead to eight. Three more buckets followed and then another three by Taylor made it 57-40 with just under a minute left in the game.
Evanda Redwood led York with 18 points, while
Sheahna Roscher had nine points and nine rebounds. Taylor led all scorers with 24 points.
John Jay improves to 5-21 on the season, with three of its wins coming against the Cardinals. York finishes the season with a record of 2-23.
