Women’s Basketball Has Tough Night at Home vs. CSI

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team had no answer for the College of Staten Island on Tuesday night, losing by a score of 86-47 at home.

After five minutes of even play, the Cardinals fell apart, committing a number of turnovers, which allowed the Dolphins to close the first quarter on a 23-4 run. Staten Island scored 19 points off turnovers in the first quarter alone.

The Dolphins continued to extend their lead in the second quarter, leading by as many as 33 points before halftime.

York played a little tighter in the third quarter, but CSI still outscored York 20-13. Staten Island held a 14-11 edge in the fourth quarter.

Staten Island took full advantage of a sloppy evening from York, as they scored 47 points off of turnovers. Staten Island only shot 32 percent for the game, but with the large discrepancy in possessions it would not make a difference.

Christina Pasaturo led Staten Island with 30 points, while connecting on seven three-pointers. Samantha Flecker recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

York got a double-double from Karen Bellamy, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Claudia Rhoden had seven points and eight rebounds.

The loss drops York's record to 1-5, 0-2 CUNYAC. Staten Island improves to 6-1, 2-0 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will visit Medgar Evers College on Friday at 5 p.m.
