JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's basketball team had a tough afternoon at home Saturday, losing to the United States Merchant Marine Academy by a score of 71-32.
USMMA got off to an early lead and never looked back against a depleted York team that was missing its three top scorers in this one. The shorthanded Cardinals played a very sloppy game, committing 43 turnovers, which led to 35 USMMA points. The Cardinals also did not shoot well, making just 15-of-56 shots on the afternoon.
USMMA was led by Taylor Hightower who had 22 points and 11 boards. Kiana Vega scored 19 points and had five assists.
Giovana Rosado had 11 points and three steals for York.
Sheahna Roscher grabbed eight rebounds.
York drops to 3-6, while USMMA improves to 6-2. The Cardinals will now be idle until December 29 when they host The College at Old Westbury at 6 p.m.
