Cardinals Top Penn College at Crosstown Challenge

WILLIAMSPORT, P.A.— The York College men's basketball team won their opening game at the Crosstown Challenge on Friday night, defeating Penn College, 81-72.

York had three players put up big numbers in the win. Jean Joseph had a team-high 20 points and four steals, while Darin Dove netted 19 points.  Ryan Smart grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds, while scoring ten points to go along with two blocks and two steals. The Cardinals (3-5) earned their second straight win, getting the victory on a neutral court at Lycoming College.

Penn College got a game-high 24 points from James Bullock. They fall to 1-8 with the loss.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They opened up a 10-2 lead at the start, thanks to three-pointers from Jamel Harris and Darin Dove. York extended its first-half lead to 12 points after a Joseph three that made it 17-5, after just five minutes of play. Penn cut into the deficit before the half and trailed by eight at halftime.

York came out hot in the second half and pushed its lead to 18 points after a Joseph lay-up with 17:34 to go.  The Cardinals were never threatened from there and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

The only drama for York in this one came before the game, when its bus broke down 25 miles away from Lycoming's campus. Fortunately, they were able to get to the game in time and get the win.

York will look to push its streak to three games tomorrow, when they take on host Lycoming College at 3 p.m. It will be a tough test for the Cardinals as Lycoming is undefeated and ranked ninth in the country.
