JAMAICA, NY- Karen Bellamy scored 36 points, while adding ten rebounds and eight assists to lead the York women's basketball team to an 84-62 win over Yeshiva on Tuesday night. .
The game marked the first win on the season for the Cardinals, as well as the first win with the team for first-year head coach Anastasia Bitis.
In the game, York as a team shot 42%, while also holding Yeshiva to just 31% shooting. The Cardinals forced 21 turnovers and were able to capitalize on them throughout most of the game.
The bench played a big factor in the game for York, as the backups were able to combine for 27 points, with Claudia Rhoden leading the way with ten points in the victory. NyKeisha Paul posted 15 points and nine rebounds in the contest.
Karen Bellamy's 36 points was three shy of the school record and was done in remarkably efficient fashion. Bellamy shot 14-of-17 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
For the Maccabees, Michal Alge led the charge with 21 points and a team-high 23 rebounds. Nicole Bick scored a team-high 24 points in the game.
The Cardinals now hold a 1-3 record on the season. The team will look to carry this momentum into their next game on the road, scheduled for Friday, December 1st at 5:30 pm as they take on CUNYAC opponent Baruch College.
