York Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Maritime College

THROGGS NECK, NY- The York men's basketball team played in their season opener against Maritime College on Wednesday night. However, they were unable to start the season on right foot, and fell by a score of 79-69.

After the first 20 minutes of play, the Cardinals were able to hold a small lead of three points going into halftime. The team as a whole shot 47% from the field, including four three pointers. York also managed to limit the Privateers to just 41% shooting for the half.

However, the second half was a different story for both teams. The Cardinals only connected on 34% of their shots. On the other side, Maritime turned their shooting game around, as they finished shooting 52% during the final 20 minutes of play. 

York had three players score in double figures. Jamel Harris lead the way in scoring with 11 points. Ryan Smart matched that total, while also contributing a team-high ten rebounds.  Jean Joseph added ten points.

For the Privateers, Patrick MacDonald had a game-high 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Isaiah Hayes was also able to post a double double with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. 

The Cardinals will look to bounce back from the loss in their next road game against Rosemont College. The game is scheduled for Friday, November 17th at 6:00 pm.
