Women’s Volleyball Gets First CUNYAC Win

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College women's volleyball team picked up its first conference win of the season, defeating Medgar Evers College, 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21). Later in the day, they fell to Baruch College (25-10, 25-7, 25-18).

York got an excellent performance from senior Allison Li, who finished with a match-high nine kills and seven aces, while also recording 13 digs.  Argenis Morales finished with eight kills and Chayana Jimenez had six.  Libero Kassandra Diaz had 15 digs and Allison Ahmed posted a season-best 23 assists.

Each set was close throughout.  In the first set, York scored the final five points to clinch the win thanks to some strong serving by Diaz.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair, with Medgar Evers squeaking out a 25-23 win.

In the third set, York got off to a fast start, taking a 7-1 advantage with Li serving up a couple aces to lead the Cardinals.  They were able to hold off the Cougars the rest of the way.

In the final set, York trailed 14-12, but a 7-1 run followed, which allowed the Cardinals to secure the victory.

In the loss against Baruch, York couldn't get much going. Li once again led York in defeat, finishing with a season-best 19 digs.

York will be idle until Friday when they host St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
