Miscues Cost York Men’s Soccer in Loss to Hunter

NEW YORK, N.Y.—A couple of key miscues by York College proved to be the difference as the Cardinals' men's soccer team lost to Hunter College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

York came into the game without their starting goalkeeper, who was forced to sit out the match after getting a red card in the previous game. As a result York was forced to start one of its players out of position in goal.

This would prove to be costly, as two keeper miscues would result in goals for Hunter.  The Hawks Michael Merlo would pick up a loose ball dropped by the keeper and scored in the 26th minute to put his team on top.

Then in the second half, a similar play happened and the Hawks took advantage—this time with Mikey Tzanetatos being the beneficiary and scoring the easy goal.

York battled back and cut the deficit in half on a pretty goal by Ivan Brito in the 77th minute. Ebrahim Ramos set up the goal on a nice free kick from the left side of the box.  He found Brito, who headed it in for a goal.

York pushed for the equalizer, but it never came.  Hunter would then tack on an insurance goal in the 84th minute following a cross into the box that Harrison Krepack put into net.

York now falls to 1-10, 0-5 CUNYAC, while Hunter improves to 3-9-1, 3-4 CUNYAC. The Cardinals visit the University of Valley Forge on Monday.
