JAMAICA, N.Y.-- After a close first half, the York College women's basketball team could not slow down Lehman in the second half and fell by a score of 74-45 at home on Wednesday night.
Â
The Cardinals played the defending CUNY champs tough early on. They jumped out to an early, 8-2, lead following three-pointers from
Giovana Rosado and
Evanda Redwood. The Cardinals were able to maintain their lead for most of the quarter, but Lehman pulled ahead by three after the opening period.
Â
York kept it a two-possession game for most of the second quarter until a 7-0 Lehman run, sparked by a Lynda Field three-pointer, gave the Lightning a 38-25 advantage. But York stayed in the game until halftime, cutting the deficit to eight points after a
Dayana Jacome jumper.
Â
However, things turned in Lehman's favor in the second half. The Lightning came out of the locker room with a 21-5 run over the first seven minutes to turn the game into a laugher. Lehman drained several three's during the stretch. They would outscore York 25-6 in the third quarter.
Â
Lehman (5-7, 3-2 CUNYAC) was led by Fields, who had a game-high 25 points, while Amely Del Rosario, the nation's leading scorer, had 22 points, ten rebounds and eight steals.
Â
York (1-11, 1-3 CUNYAC) got a career-high 12 points from
Sheahna Roscher and ten points and six rebounds from Redwood. Â
Mayan Charles had five points and 14 rebounds.
Â
The Cardinals return to action on Friday with a road game at Hunter College beginning at 5 p.m.
