Lehman Pulls Away in Second Half to Top Women's Basketball

JAMAICA, N.Y.-- After a close first half, the York College women's basketball team could not slow down Lehman in the second half and fell by a score of 74-45 at home on Wednesday night.

The Cardinals played the defending CUNY champs tough early on.  They jumped out to an early, 8-2, lead following three-pointers from Giovana Rosado and Evanda Redwood. The Cardinals were able to maintain their lead for most of the quarter, but Lehman pulled ahead by three after the opening period.

York kept it a two-possession game for most of the second quarter until a 7-0 Lehman run, sparked by a Lynda Field three-pointer, gave the Lightning a 38-25 advantage.  But York stayed in the game until halftime, cutting the deficit to eight points after a Dayana Jacome jumper.

However, things turned in Lehman's favor in the second half. The Lightning came out of the locker room with a 21-5 run over the first seven minutes to turn the game into a laugher. Lehman drained several three's during the stretch. They would outscore York 25-6 in the third quarter.

Lehman (5-7, 3-2 CUNYAC) was led by Fields, who had a game-high 25 points, while Amely Del Rosario, the nation's leading scorer, had 22 points, ten rebounds and eight steals.

York (1-11, 1-3 CUNYAC) got a career-high 12 points from Sheahna Roscher and ten points and six rebounds from Redwood.  Mayan Charles had five points and 14 rebounds.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday with a road game at Hunter College beginning at 5 p.m.
