JAMAICA, N.Y. —The York College women's basketball team won its first home game of the season against Medgar Evers College, 62-54, on Friday Night in a wild game in which York was forced to play with just four people due to foul trouble.
York never trailed in the game and led by as much as 17 points. The Cardinals shot 75% from the free thrown line and caused 23 turnovers.
They looked to be in control of the game. However, with 3:27 left to go in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals found themselves in major foul trouble—three out of their seven players had fouled out. For the remaining 3:27, the Cardinals had to play with only four players on the court.
Fortunately, York held a 15-point advantage at the time and although Medgar Evers followed with a big run, they ran out of time before they could complete the comeback.
Sheahna Roscher led the Cardinals with 20 points and nine rebounds. She was 6-for-11 from behind the arc.
Evanda Redwood added 17 points and 6 rebounds for the Cardinals in the victory.
Elesha Dieudonne led the Cougars with 16 points, while Chanelle Perry had 13 rebounds in the loss.
After tonight's game, the York Cardinals improve to 2-16, 2-8 CUNYAC on the season, while Medgar Evers drops to 1-16, 1-8 CUNYAC on the season. Up next for the Cardinals will be a road game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Lehman College.
