Roscher’s Big Night Not Enough as Women’s Basketball is Edged by John Jay

JAMAICA, N.Y.—York College sophomore Sheahna Roscher scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but her effort would be in vain as the Cardinals fell to John Jay College, 56-54, on Friday night.

Roscher drained six three's on the night, but unfortunately missed the biggest one of the night. On the final play of the game with York trailing by two points, Roscher missed an open three that would have won the game as time expired.

The Cardinals got off to a rough start, trailing 18-9 after the first quarter of play. They picked it up in the second and cut the deficit to four at the break.  The Cardinals continued to chip away and tied the score at 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

York finally pulled ahead, 47-44, thanks to a Rafaella Savva three with 6:54 to go. Roscher followed with a three of her own and York looked to be in control with a 50-44 lead. John Jay would follow with an 8-0 run to pull back ahead by two, however.  They were able to hold on to the narrow lead from there.

Also contributing for York was Evanda Redwood, who had ten points. Dana Nicholson contributed 16 points for John Jay.

York returns to action on Wednesday when they visit Baruch College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
