BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A goal by Gayle Woods with just 21 seconds remaining broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Maritme College to a win over the York College women's soccer team by a score of 2-1 on Thursday evening.
 
Woods rifled a shot that hit off the post and went in to give Maritime the victory and break the hearts of the Cardinal squad in the process.  
 
The match was evenly played throughout, with neither team finding the net until the 71st minute of action.  Martime got on the board first when Anastacia Evans put in a ball off a free kick from Kayla Kelly to make it 1-0.
 
Seven minutes later, senior Estefany Delgado got the equalizer, putting in a cross from newcomer Monique Surf.  The score remained the same and it looked like the teams would head into overtime until Maritime's last-minute goal.
 
York (0-2) will try to regroup from the tough loss when they visit Yeshiva University on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Randall's Island.
