NEW YORK, N.Y.—The 2016 York College men's volleyball season came to an end in the City University of New York Athletic Conference Semifinals, as they lost to top-seeded Baruch College 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-19).
The fourth-seeded Cardinals knew they had a tough task ahead against Baruch College, who finished the regular season in first place and swept the Cardinals in their previous two meetings. Baruch was dominant again in this one to advance to the finals.
The Bearcats took the first two sets with ease, hitting an impressive .786 in the first set and .636 in the second. However, the Cardinals showed some heart and didn't go down without a fight. York jumped out a 6-3 lead after a
Randy Adams kill and later held a 12-9 lead following an
Anson Webb kill.
However, Baruch responded with four straight points to take a 13-12 lead. After York scored a point, Baruch scored four more points in a row and led 17-13. York rallied one more time, eventually tying the score at 19-19, but Baruch would score the final six points to clinch the match.
Baruch was led by Jacob Rudin, who had seven kills and Brady Ambro with five. Adams had seven kills to lead the Cardinals.
York was playing in its eighth straight CUNYAC semifinal appearances. They are 2-6 in the game during that span.
York finishes the season with a record of 13-21.
