John Jay Shuts Down York Bats in Doubleheader Sweep

PURCHASE, N.Y.—The York College softball team, which had been swinging some hot bats over the past week, were cooled down by the John Jay pitching staff, as the Bloodhounds defeated York by scores of 11-2 and 8-0 respectively on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, York manufactured a run in the top of the first after Chyla Guevera brought home Nathy Reyes on a groundout.  But thing would go downhill from there for York.

John Jay plated two runs in the second, four in the third and five in the fourth.  Lisa Pelligrini led the Bloodhounds, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, while also earning the win on the mound, striking out five.

York later added a second run on a Alyssa King double, but the game was out of reach.

In game two, York was held to four hits and was kept off the scoreboard by John Jay pitcher Alinda Nicaj.  Pelligrini victimized York again with two more hits and three RBIs.

York is now 2-16, 1-9 CUNYAC, while John Jay is 7-14, 6-6 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals visit Yeshiva in a doubleheader held at Fordham University beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
