The York College softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon to the Baruch Bearcats by scores of 9-0 and 17-3. It was just the third and fourth games York has played this year and the second straight day playing a doubleheader.
Baruch (3-10. 2-0 CUNYAC) came out of the gate early in the first game, scoring three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second. Starting pitcher
Priscilla Lallave settled down after that, retiring six out of the next eight batters. For the game, Lallave gave up nine runs, but only five were earned in five innings pitched.
In the second game, Baruch once again grabbed a big early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning and 12 runs in the second, chasing Lallave from the game.
Chyla Guevara came in for the last 2.1 innings of the game, not allowing any more runners to cross the plate, while only giving up one hit and recording a strikeout.
Second baseman
Tyler Smith led the way for the Cardinals on offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple in the right-center-field gap, and scored two runs.
Nicole Ovelheira went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, including an RBI double in the first to score York's first run of the season, and a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
York (0-4, 0-2 CUNYAC) has a week off before they travel to Westchester to take on Purchase College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, starting at 3:30 p.m.
