BELLEROSE, N.Y.—The York College softball team dropped a doubleheader in its season opener to Sarah Lawrence College by scores of 9-0 and 10-0 respectively Tuesday afternoon.
 
Sarah Lawrence (5-9) came into the doubleheader having already played 12 games and they looked to be the more seasoned team in this one.   Meanwhile, York appeared to have some first-game jitters, as they struggled defensively behind pitcher Priscilla Lallave in game one. 
 
Lallave pitched well in game one, allowing just two earned runs, but York's defense allowed seven other runs to come across.  The Gryphons Taryn Penn had a big day at the plate, going 3-of-4 with three RBIs to lead her team to victory.
 
In game #2, York pitcher Kimberly Barnes kept it close for York until the Gryphons exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth to put the game well out of reach.
 
York (0-2) will have a quick turnaround when they host Baruch College tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.
