STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—
Randy Adams recorded 22 kills, 15 digs and six blocks to lead the York College men's volleyball team to a 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 26-24, 25-18) win over the College of Staten Island.
Adams was all over the court, finishing with 52 hitting attempts (.173) to go along with his six blocks (five solo) and 15 digs.
Frederis Tapia had a career-high 12 kills, while defensive specialists Manprit Singh and
Paramvir Singh finished with 13 digs and 17 digs respectively. Setter
Jonathan Liao set a new career high in assists with 43, while also adding four kills and 14 digs.
Larry Moore added nine kills and hit .214.
In the first set, the Cardinals let a five-point advantage slip away and the set eventually came down to the final points. With the score tied at 24-24, CSI committed a service error and then Moore smashed a kill to clinch the opening set.
After dropping the second set, York had another battle in the pivotal third set. Once again, York let CSI back in the set, seeing a 17-11 lead evaporate. The score was tied at 24-24, but the Cardinals pulled it out, getting consecutive kills from Tapia and Adams.
In the fourth set, it was the Dolphins who had the early advantage, but this time York came back thanks to a 7-0 run that took a 13-12 deficit to a 19-13 advantage. The Cardinals eventually clinched the match on a Liao kill.
CSI was led by Justin Edwardsen, who had 12 kills. The Dolphins drop to 4-10, 2-5 CUNYAC.
York is now 6-10, 4-4 CUNYAC. They will take on the same Dolphins team, as well as Brooklyn College in a multi-match on Saturday, which will be held at Hunter College.
