York Falls to Johnson & Wales, Bard

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The York College Men's Volleyball team played tough but ultimately fell in both their matches on Saturday. They lost 3-0 to Johnson & Wales in the first match and then dropped their match to Bard College 3-1.

The Cardinals got off to a hot start in the first set against Johnson and Wales, racing out to a 6-3 lead. The Wildcats then went on an 8-0 run right after that to take the lead. York kept it close, only being down 20-18, before Johnson & Wales pulled away to take the first set.

The second set was back and forth the entire time, but Johnson & Wales was able to prevail, 25-21. The third set was close for awhile as well but the Wildcats pulled away again for 25-17 win to take the match.

The Cardinals were led by Akeem George with 11 kills, Jonathan Liao with 22 assists, and reigning CUNYAC Libero of the Week Paramvir Singh with 11 digs. Johnson & Wales was led by Alex Seda who had 20 kills and Cameron Ponce with eight aces.

In the second match of the day for York, Bard College took the first set pretty easily 25-13, but the Cardinals bounced right back to take the second set 25-22. The second set included a key 4-0 run for York to go from a 15-15 tie to a 19-15 lead. However, the Cardinals were unable to carry that momentum into the next two sets, dropping them 25-13 and 25-15.

Similar to the first match, York was led by Akeem George with 9 kills, Jonathan Liao with 22 assists, and Paramvir Singh with 13 digs. Bard was led by Alex Adams with 15 kills and seven aces.

York (9-16, 7-4 CUNYAC) is back in action on Tuesday in Jamaica, hosting a conference match against Medgar Evers at 6 p.m. and a match against Purchase College right after.
