STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.--- For the second time this season, the York College women's basketball team gave a talented College of Staten Island squad a tough game, but once again came out on the losing end—this time by a score of 70-58 Saturday afternoon.
York played a tough defensive game, holding the Dolphins to just 32 percent shooting. Although, York shot much better at 42 percent, they were done in by 28 turnovers.
Leading the way for York was
Samantha Bond, who had 20 points on 9-of-19 shooting.
Jigcara Grant had another double-double, with 12 points and 24 rebounds. Angelilka Ruggiano had 17 points. CSI was led by Samantha Flecker, who had 22 points.
York never led in this one and CSI looked to be in control after extending its lead in the third quarter to 17 points. However, York closed the quarter with a 14-0 run to cut the deficit to just three points (49-46). The Cardinal run was mostly a product of good defense and strong free throw shooting.
York continued to hang around for most of the fourth quarter, until CSI pulled away late, with an 8-0 run that took a five-point advantage up to 13 points.
York is now 4-12, 2-11 CUNYAC, while the Dolphins are 14-7, 10-3 CUNYAC. York returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. John Jay College at 6 p.m.
