Women’s Basketball Struggles in Loss to Staten Island

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team could not contain the College of Staten Island in a Saturday matinee, losing by a score of 79-40.
 
The game was out of reach early for the Cardinals with the College of Staten Island opening up a 25-2 lead at the start and a 31-8 advantage after one quarter of play.  Christina Pasaturo was on fire for Staten Island, scoring 19 first-half points, while connecting on 4-of-5 shots from three-point range.  CSI extended its lead to 55-17 at the break.
 
Despite the lopsided score, the Cardinals still fought hard and showed improved play in the third quarter, with Evanda Redwood scoring nine points in the third quarter and leading York on an 8-2 run. The Cardinals also played well in the fourth quarter, outscoring CSI, 10-8. 
 
Pasaturo finished with an impressive total of 27 points in just 16 minutes of action, while making 8-of-9 shots from the field and 5-of-6 from three.  Samantha Flecker had 14 points.
 
Redwood had 13 points, five boards and four assists for York. Mayan Charles had seven points and 14 rebounds and Diamond Jackson registered four points and 11 rebounds.
 
Staten Island improves to 4-2, 2-0 CUNYAC, while York drops to 0-6, 0-2 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday with a road contest at Medgar Evers College beginning at 6 p.m.
