Women’s Basketball Has Quiet Day in Loss to New Rochelle

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team struggled on offense Saturday afternoon and lost to the College of New Rochelle, 67-41.

York shot just 26.3 percent from the field on the day and also turned the ball over 26 times.  Combined that is a recipe for a tough afternoon.

The Cardinals found themselves in an early hole and could never recover.  The Blue Angels jumped out to a 17-3 advantage after the first quarter of play.  The quarter included an 11-0 run in which Dar'Neisha Brice score nine of those points.

The second quarter was slightly better but still saw the Blue Angels outscore the Cardinals 15-9, extending their lead to 32-12 at the half.

The third quarter saw another big New Rochelle run, with the Blue Angels scoring 12 unanswered points over a 6:30 span.  They would push the advantage to 50-22 at the end of the period.

The fourth quarter was won by the Cardinals (19-17), but the game was well out of reach at that point.

New Rochelle was led by Chelsea Thomas, who had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Brice had 11 points, six boards and four assists.

Rafaella Savva scored seven points in the loss, while Mayan Charles added 11 rebounds.  Juliet Matthews finished with six points and four assists and Sheahna Roscher recorded six points and seven rebounds.

New Rochelle improves to 5-2 with the win, while York drops to 1-7.  The Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday when they visit the College of Mt. St. Vincent at 6 p.m.
