OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The York College men's basketball team fell to Old Westbury, 82-70, on the road Saturday afternoon.
York had three players score in double figures in the loss, led by
Larry Moore, who had 15 points, 11 rebounds and two assists.
Ryan St. John had 13 points and four rebounds while
Ryan Smart had 10 points and six rebounds.
Jamail Stanley led the Panthers with 30 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks. Stephon Odle added 21 points while Lylle Ryals put up 13.
The Cardinals trailed by 13 points with 14:11 to play, but the Cardinals managed to chip away to come within seven points at halftime. York went on a 17-12 run to close out the first half.
The Cardinals lost their momentum in the second half as they started with two turnovers and a foul. Old Westbury began to pull away, eventually gaining a 17-point lead, one that York could not come back from.
The Cardinals bested the Panthers in bench points, outscoring Old Westbury 25-7. However, Old Westbury took the advantage in fast break points (21-6) and points in the paint (32-30).
The loss now drops York's record to 0-8, 0-4 CUNYAC, while Old Westbury improves to 1-5, 1-1 Skyline. The Cardinals will continue to look for their first win of the season when they travel to William Paterson University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
