Women’s Volleyball Drops Tough Road Contest to Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J.– The York College women's volleyball team fell short of a comeback in a road match against the College of Saint Elizabeth, which resulted in a 3-0 (25-0, 25-17, 25-17) loss to the Eagles Friday evening.

York (2-14) beat itself in many ways, unfortunately the Cardinals had to forfeit the first set of the match due to showing up 50 minutes late because of traffic out of the city. A normal two-hour trip took twice as long.  Once they got started, York fell into trouble committing 11 errors, compared to just five by their opponents.

In the loss, Chayana Jimenez led York with eight digs. Tiandra Jones had a good night despite the final result. She finished the match with three kills, two aces, and two assists.

The Cardinals began the third set on a 5-0 run but gave it right back as the Eagles went on a roll, scoring six consecutive points, leading to a York timeout. Following the timeout, Saint Elizabeth took control of the set, scoring five more points to open up a six-point lead. York wasn't able to come back as they went on to lose the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Saint Elizabeth (7-10) was led by Yasmin'na Muhammad , who had a match-high eight kills. Nicole Morera added 17 assists for the Eagles.

York will be back at it this Monday with a home CUNYAC tri-match. They look to rebound from this loss with a battle versus the City College of New York at 12 p.m and Hunter College at 4 p.m.
