NEW HAVEN, C.T.– The York College women's volleyball team couldn't get the job done Tuesday evening in a non-conference match in New Haven, Connecticut. The Cardinals came close in each set but were unable to earn a victory in any of the three sets played tonight. The final score of the match was 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17) in favor of the host Falcons.
Albertus Magnus began the first set on a 12-3 run, but just when it looked like York was going to go down without a fight, they stormed back to take a 17-16 lead. Unfortunately they were unable to keep up the momentum as they dropped the last nine points of the opening set.
The second set started out in York's favor as they went up 14-8. Untimely errors doomed York as they committed a total of 11 in the set, compared to just seven by their opponents. A five-point run by the Falcons to end the set saw them take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The final set was even most of the way, but again hitting errors plagued the Cardinals. With the score 15-11 in favor of the Cardinals, Albertus Magnus went on a 10-3 run which was ultimately too much for York to handle.
York (2-17) was led by
Tiandra Jones, who had five kills and 11 digs.
Shauncia McClendon had a great serve going, recording eight aces.
Albertus Magnus (6-13), was led by Amber Cohens who had match-high nine kills. Jesselle Guzman added 11 assists for the Falcons.
York will look to bounce back from the loss next Wednesday when they host The College at Old Westbury at 7:00 p.m.
