Dismal Shooting Night for York Results in Loss to Brooklyn College

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's basketball team had its worst shooting night of the season and fell to CUNYAC rival Brooklyn College at home by a score of 80-46, Tuesday night.

The entire team struggled making baskets, as they just shot 23.7 percent on the night.  Despite their offensive woes, York was in the game for most of the first half because their defense held Brooklyn to 29 percent from the field.  They were within two possessions for most of the first half until late, when a buzzer-beater by Brooklyn's Egzon Gjonbalaj made it an eight-point deficit at the break (26-18).

York's struggles on offense continued in the second half.  However, Brooklyn's did not, and they shot 66 percent in the second half, dominating play in the final 20 minutes and outscoring York 54-28.

Gjonbalaj had a big night for Brooklyn, scoring 23 points, while adding 13 rebounds and three assists.  Lorenzo Williams added nine points, ten rebounds and seven assists.

Jean Joseph was one of the few bright spots for York on the evening. He scored a season-high 15 points, while making three shots from long range and adding seven rebounds.  Rashaan Bailey added 12 points and eight rebounds.  Ryan Smart pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.

York falls to 2-11, 0-5 CUNYAC, while Brooklyn is now 11-2, 5-1 CUNYAC.  The Cardinals will look to bounce back on Friday when they travel to Hunter College at 7 p.m.
